Covid-19 guidelines for Estate Agents

The ministry of housing, communities and local government has updated its guidance document. This is in an attempt to educate estate agents on the proper way to conduct themselves safely while also maintaining the safety of others.

As we are aware, estate and lettings agents are allowed to carry on as normal. So what do agents need to change?

Estate agents should:

Ensure all staff and visitors are aware of Covid-19 procedures.

Before any viewing goes ahead, an estate agent should ask whether the individuals have been showing any symptoms of coronavirus or if they have been asked to self isolate.

Visitors will need to wear face masks while in the office.

Agents should also wear face masks when in close contact with visitors.

Agents should encourage virtual viewings as a first instance, then only agree to a physical viewing when the individuals are strongly interested.

Guidance suggests that clients find their own way to viewings as having agents drive them is not advised.

Agents should advise all parties to wash hands with soap and water after a viewing has occurred

Flexibility is needed from the agents side. They should work with clients to provide alternative dates if original dates cant be adhered to due to current guidelines on self isolation etc.

Estate agents should clean all keys adequately before handing to another party.

Agents should also check if the client has recently returned from a country not on the exception list.
